Mag. Clemens Handl, LL.M., is attorney-at-law and partner at CHG Rechtsanwälte in Innsbruck and heads the firm’s data & technology practice group. He advises national and international companies on artificial intelligence, IT law, data protection, cybersecurity, digital business models and intellectual property. A particular focus of his work is the legally compliant implementation and use of AI systems and advising at the intersection of law, technology and business execution.

His practice particularly includes internal AI policies, AI Act classification and implementation, drafting and negotiating IT, software, SaaS, cloud and licence agreements, privacy compliance and data processing arrangements, as well as e-commerce, data law and copyright matters. He also advises on current digital regulation, in particular in connection with the Data Act, the Cyber Resilience Act and NIS2/NISG.

Clemens Handl studied law at the University of Innsbruck and further specialised in IT and media law at the University of Vienna. He has also served as an external data protection officer since 2018 and has headed CHG’s data & technology practice group since 2024. He is CIPP/E certified and regularly publishes and speaks on artificial intelligence, data protection, cybersecurity, digital products and technology law.
